August 20th and 21st mark the 58th annual Chicago Air & Water Show at North Avenue Beach and along Chicago’s magnificent lakeshore. With the skyline as the backdrop and vantage points all over the city, this is the country’s largest FREE air and water show of its kind. Recent years have brought audiences of up to 2 million people who flock to the beach, the water, neighbor’s roof tops and lakefront parks to watch the spectacle.
What started 58 years ago as a small one day event for kids at local summer camps has grown into one of the city’s main summer events. With corporate sponsors and performances from military and civilian teams alike, the Chicago Air & Water Show can be a crowded, albeit thrilling event. If you want to be experience the excitement without all the people, then check it out from one of our electric boats. Our pontoon, the Auntie Mimi, will offer the best unobstructed views of the planes as they fly over the city.
Although the show technically runs over the weekend (August 20-21) the planes will conduct rehearsals a few days beforehand. Parts of the show can be seen (and heard!) from all over the city, as far north as Wrigley Field and as far south as Gary. So grab some friends, take a cruise on the river and brace yourself for the flybys.
